I’m so excited for 4th of July this year! Ry is at the age where I think he will really enjoy the fireworks…at least I hope so. What age did your littles start to get excited about the firework shows? I have so many childhood memories of the Fourth and can’t wait to start new traditions with our little family. Thinking about the holidays and all the fun that is in store for the future makes me all giddy.
When I think of the Fourth of July this is what comes to mind:
- Red, white and blue – Of course!
- Pool time
- Lots of outdoor fun with family and friends
I have rounded up some really fun ideas to help make your Fourth of July memorable and one for the books. I have also included FREE printables to make it as easy as possible to host an unforgettable party.
Red, White and Blue Attire
The most important part (well one of them)…your red, white and blue Fourth of July attire is a must! How fun are these outfits for my little ones?!?
Riley’s hot dog American flag shirt is from Old Navy, click here to get one for your little man. When I saw it I had to make the purchase.
Chloe’s outfit is from Target, click here to get one for your little lady and the sunglasses are from the Target Dollar Spot.
You can’t have a Fourth of July party without the delicious cocktails! I love to have drinks easily accessible for guests so when they are ready for a refill they can help themselves. Sangria is always a crowd pleaser and who doesn’t enjoy an ice cold brew on a hot sunny day?
Here is a FREE Printable for the drink menu.
I love using Mason Jars for prepared drinks and then putting them over ice. They are then chilled and ready to go without having to water them down with ice. You could also have drink dispensers of Sangria for refills. How cute are these tags to put around the Mason Jars? Psst – They sell Mason Jars for a great price at Costco.
Here is a FREE Printable for the drink tags…They add the perfect touch.
What’s on the menu?
We love BBQing, in fact, that is what we do most nights in the summer since it is too hot here in AZ to use the oven. If we aren’t cooking on the BBQ then I use the crockpot. I love that with the crockpot you can put all the ingredients in the pot, cook it for a few hours and then dinner is ready! It’s perfect for when you’re hosting guest because then you don’t have to be cooking the entire time, you can have a cocktail and enjoy their company.
I recently made pulled pork sliders and put the pork in the crockpot and it turned out sooo… good! Here is what you need to make the pulled pork sliders:
- Pork tenderloin – or whichever cut you prefer. I like tenderloin because there is minimal fat
- Your favorite BBQ sauce – I like the sweet and tangy from Trader’s Joes
- Mini slider buns – I got them at Trader Joes…How cute are these?!? You could also do the Hawaiian rolls
- Coleslaw – I bought pre-made coleslaw from Whole Foods. It doesn’t get easier than that
Add the pork and BBQ sauce with a few extra spices and cook on low for 5 hours. The pork will literally fall apart. Pair a fruit salad or sliced watermelon and you have the perfect Fourth of July feast! Oh yeah, don’t forget the strawberry shortcake below for dessert.
We LOVE strawberry shortcake for dessert, it’s so light and the perfect summertime treat! My hubby requested it a few weeks ago and he thought I could just pick up some sweet scones or shortbread from the store that were already prepared and tasted homemade…I proceeded to chuckle because doesn’t that sound so easy??? I normally make homemade strawberry scones but wasn’t up to it. I made a trip to Trader Joe’s a week later and look what I found!!! Shortcake biscuits and you guys…they were delicious and tasted like they just came out of the oven.
Now let me tell you my secret for the berries –
- I use three berries: Strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries
- Put them in a bowl together with a hint of fresh lemon juice and brown sugar
- Mix them around a bit and let them marinate for a few hours, then serve
To the best part…The FRESH whipped cream! I use Martha Stewarts recipe, you can’t go wrong there. You can find it here. The only thing I do different is added extra powdered sugar to make it super sweet.
* If you prepare it ahead of time, store it in a stainless bowl so it keeps its fluff.
S’mores Guest Gift
This is the best gift to send your guest off with or you could use them the night of your party. S’mores are always a hit! Here is what you will need:
- Skewer or roasting stick. I found this super cute roasting stick in the Dollar Spot at Target.
- Graham Crackers – Did you know they have them in halves now? I may be late to this party but was so excited when I found them!
- Hershey’s chocolate
- Cello bags
- FREE Printable S’mores tag
